The C.O.W.S. LONG WALK TO FREEDOM Part IX

Umkhonto we Sizwe

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the ninth study session on former South African President Nelson Mandela’s autobiography, Long Walk To Freedom (1994). Gus hopes this will be an opportunity for Victims of Racism to learn more about the region of South Africa and the manner in which White Terrorism was practiced in this location during the twentieth century. Last week’s session introduced the military element of the African National Congress, Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK). Madiba articulated explicitly that their counter-violent aims were not aimed at killing any White people. Rather, they wanted to sabotage property that would impair the terrorist apartheid regime. Gus is not sure they could aspire to extinguishing White lives because Whites were among the first invited to join MK. This week’s installment will offer more information on the evolution of MK, and how this impacted ANC members and Africans at large. We’ll also hear how Madiba’s efforts adversely impacted his marriage to Winnie and his attempt to be a father.
