Despite widespread rapes in the military U.S. Senate fails to pass reforms

Despite widespread rapes and sexuall assualts with both male and female victims, the U.S. Senate failed to pass a bill that would have allowed military lawyers to handle complaints but instead left it in the hands of commanders some of which have been accused of sexual misconduct like Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair. Rapist in the military rarely get prison time for their crimes if punished at all. In most cases, offenders if prosecuted end up being discharged from the service and allowed back onto American streets.

The US Army’s top prosecutor for sexual assault cases, Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Morse was recently suspended over allegations he groped and tried to kiss a lawyer working for him.

One case that is especially egregious and highlights the problem involved the rape and murder of Pfc. LaVena Johnson which Army investigators ruled a suicide.
