Israel Prize laureate Amoz Oz calls Israelis “Hebrew neo-Nazis”

Hebrew neo-Nazis

Writer and Israel Prize laureate Amoz Oz said last week that those responsible for hate crimes in Israel against Arabs and Christians are “Hebrew neo-Nazis.” However, Oz made no mention of the hate crimes against African people, black Jews and non-Jews alike that NBA team owner Donald Sterling said are treated worse than dogs by white Jews.

Oz was speaking at an event to mark his 75th birthday and he said that terms like “hilltop youth” and “price tag” are “sweet names for a monster that needs to be called what it is: Hebrew neo-Nazis groups.”

Oz added that in his mind, perhaps the only difference between neo-Nazis around the world and perpetrators of hate crimes in Israel is that “our neo-Nazi groups enjoy the support of numerous nationalist or even racist legislators, as well as rabbis who give them what is in my view pseudo-religious justification.”

Of course, not everyone in attendance agreed with the label. Former presidential nominee Reuven Rivlin said that such a comparison is out of line. If the Swastika fits, the European Jews in Israel should wear it and stop pretending to be victims when they are the oppressors engaged in colonialism, mob violence against black people, murder, and the Israeli government is going as far as sterilizing African immigrants so that Israel stays a white stronghold among non-white people.
