The Huey P. Newton Gun Club based in Dallas, Texas recently participated in an Open Carry protest along with a local branch of the New Black Panther Party to show solidarity with the people of Ferguson and to put the police terrorist on notice that they will begin community patrols as a response to the rampant police terrorism that is plaguing their community with the support and blessings of the state and county. The demonstration was far more serious than what was on display in Ferguson recently which maybe under different leadership.

Huey P. Newton for which the gun club is named was the co-founder of the people’s revolutionary Black Panther Party for Self Defense which among many things, strongly believed in armed self defense against the terrorism of racist whites and police departments. While they preached armed self-defense they also provided much needed services to the communities they were in by way of what they called “survival programs”.

As a white teacher in North Carolina is getting recognition for starting a great online fundraiser to help feed the impoverished children of Ferguson who may be missing meals because of school closures related to the Free Ferguson Rebellion, it was the Black Panther Party for Self Defense during the sixties that started free breakfast programs for children that were later adopted by the US government and states which is just another forgotten legacy of the Party. J. Edgar Hoover, the former head of the FBI which illegally targeted and destroyed the Black Panther Party for Self Defense through COINTELPRO with help from racist police departments across America, once stated that the panthers were “the greatest threat to the internal security of the country.” and not because of their practice of armed self-defense but because they were feeding children. Many of the former members of the Black Panther Party for Self Defense remain political prisoners this day in the United States.

However, if you would like to help the people of Ferguson who have not been able to work due to the much needed political demonstrations, the United Way of Greater St. Louis has set up a fund for them and a web page with more information on ways you can help.

Another way you can help all Black communities to prevent the senseless murders by those who are not protecting and serving us but enforcing 13th Amendment approved slavery and human trafficking, is to start taking the war against Black people serious and organize your own autonomous formations to patrol and serve your communities. There are groups like the Black Autonomy Federation based in Memphis, Tennessee with several chapters across the country and if you are in Texas, you can also contact the Huey P. Newton Gun Club and ask them how you can duplicate their efforts to help protect Black people from the number one terrorist threat facing them in America, the police.

The members of the Huey P. Newton gun club are following in the footsteps of many Black men and women who belonged to great organizations that existed to protect Black communities during the 50s, 60s and 70s like the Deacons for Defense, the Black Guard led by Robert F. Williams and the Black Panther Party for Self Defense.

The following is a press release from the group dated August 17,2014.

Huey P. Newton Gun Club

The recent murders of unarmed black, brown, and whites across the United States of America has eradicated trust in the police. Individuals across this nation have been stripped of due process, subjected to state-sponsored police terrorism, and continue to suffer the fate of being terminated extra-judicially.

In Dallas the police have murdered over 70 unarmed individuals, most of the black and brown men, over the last ten years. Excluding a recent incident where police testimony was contradicted by surveillance footage, there have been no indictments since 1973.

The people, who are gunned down and murdered by violent and militarized police forces, have formed the Huey P. Newton Gun Club, for the specific purpose of self defense and community policing.

In response, Black and Brown residents of the City of Dallas will conduct the first of an ongoing and necessary armed self defense patrols through our communities in the coming week.

We, the Huey P. Newton Gun Club, hereby put forth the following non-negotiable demands and promote these conditions for the protection of our communities:

1. We demand the immediate end to police brutality, harassment, and murder of the people.

2. We assert the right of the people, particularly those of color, to bear arms and protect themselves where local, state, and the federal government have historically failed to do so.

3. We demand that the media, in coordination with police, cease immediately assassinating the character of victims subject to police terrorism.
