The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Charles E. Cobb Jr. Professor Cobb is a journalist, professor, former member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, the first black staff writer for National Geographic Magazine and the current senior analyst for AllAfrica.com. Professor Cobb has written several books addressing black people and the global system of White Supremacy. We’ll discuss his most recent publication, This Nonviolent Stuff’ll Get You Killed: How Guns Made The Civil Rights Movement Possible. Cobb offers vivid accounts of numerous black people who actively practiced counter-violence in response to unrelenting White Terrorism. Mr. Cobb suggests that the typical narrative of nonviolent, “passive” black protesters drastically misrepresents the large volume of black citizens who were unwilling to “turn the other cheek”. He details how armed self defense is as old as the System of Racism and that Whites have an equally long history of undermining and obstructing the 2nd amendment rights of black citizens.

  1. Looking forward to today’s show. Especially after revisiting cases of Michael Giles and John McNeil. Plus the ongoing effort to make sure darren wilson receives no punishment for killing Michael Brown. Also thinking ofthe intense way Maryland da anne Leitiss went after black Detective Joseph Walker for killing white racist Joseph Harvey who threatened the lives of Walker and his family. 3 mos after his acquittal, Walker is still unemployed.
