BTR News: Jury Awards Millions To Estate of Victim of Slavery Korryn Gaines

Victim of modern slavery and human trafficking Korryn Gaines was blatantly murdered by Baltimore County Department of slave catchers in 2016. Her 5-year-old son was nearly killed along with his mother when Cpl Royce Ruby shot through a wall to end a standoff between Gaines and police.

A jury did not agree with the state which cleared Ruby of any wrongdoing and said that it was completely unreasonable of him to take the action that he alone took to violate the civil rights of his victims. The jury awarded more than $32 million to Kodi in damages, and $4.5 million for his sister, Karsyn.
