New Abolitionists Radio: Gabriel The Great’s Rebellion Against Slavery

Today is the March 14th, 2018 broadcast in our 6th season of New Abolitionists Radio.

On and near this day in history.

• March 13th, 1794 Eli Whitney patented the cotton gin, based on the ideas and plans of a slave, making it possible to clean 50 pounds of cotton a day, compared to a pound a day before the invention. This made cotton king and increased the demand for slave labor.

• Also, Fannie Lou Hamer, freedom fighter, died in 1977. Her motto was “nobody is free until everybody is free”. We agree.

• And finally, on March 15th, 1827, Freedom’s Journal, the first Black newspaper in the US was published by John Russwurm and Samuel Cornish featuring an editorial Supporting the colonization of Africa by African Americans.

• Our abolitionist in profile tonight is Luis Gonzaga Pinto da Gama. A Brazilian poet, journalist, legal activist, abolitionist leader, and former slave. 1830 – 1882.

• In the segment; “For Freedom’s Sake” A History of rebellion, we remember Gabriel Prosser’s rebellion of August 1800.

• Our Rider of the 21st-century Underground Railroad is Malcolm Alexander who spent nearly four decades incarcerated for a crime he didn’t commit. Thanks to the innocence project Alexander was exonerated and freed February 20th, 2018.

• As usual, we’ll dissect and disseminate current news and events related to 13TH amendment slavery from the perspectives of slavery abolitionists. That includes Sheriffs making 3 times their salary by taking home money meant for prisoner’s food. An NYPD cop busted as a drug lord. An ICE official who quit over the lies being told about immigrants.A bail bondswoman who shot a man in cold blood, and a recorded message from Alabama inmate Swift Justice of Unheard Voices and the FREE Alabama Movement.
