The C.O.W.S. Ralph Ellison’s INVISIBLE MAN Part 2

Friday, May 11th 8:00PM Eastern/ 5:00PM Pacific

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the second study session on Ralph Ellison’s 1952 masterpiece, Invisible Man. One of Gus’s top five all-time books, Ellison’s novel received the 1953 National Book Award and has been praised globally for nearly 75 years. Invisible Man chronicles a nameless black male struggling through the confusion of White Supremacy (Racism). Last week’s session opened with the main character sharing his frustrations with Whites and Racism. He talks about nearly killing a White man in the street and recounts a dream where black people kill a White enslaver. The nameless main character explains that he’s about to tell the story of what happened to him when he was more confused. The narrative begins with cryptic words from his grandfather – who identified himself as a traitor and advised his family to teach the young children how to carry on covert battle against Whites. The major “battle” from last week’s session was the degrading brawl the narrator and other black boys were forced to join for the pornographic entertainment of White men.
