Monday, January 16th 8:00PM Eastern/ 5:00PM Pacific

The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Sarah Burns. A White Woman, filmmaker and author, Burns is the offspring of award-winning filmmaker Ken Burns. We’ll discuss Sarah’s 2011 publication, The Central Park Five: The Untold Story Behind One of New York City’s Most Infamous Crimes. The text examines the 1989 rape of a White Woman, that led to a group of non-white children being falsely convicted for this crime. The examines how these non-white children were mistreated by New York enforcement officials and prosecuting attorneys, as well the language used to describe these black and non-white children as evil. New York’s Donald J. Trump took out a full page advertisement in The New York Times to scold these children. Sarah Burns has plans for a documentary film on this topic.
