The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Rachel Lyon. Ms. Lyon is an Emmy award winning filmmaker and has produced over 65 documentaries for theatrical, broadcast and limited series, including National Geographic ‘Explorer’ and PBS’ ‘Frontline.’ Her robust body of work includes the PBS Emmy award winner, Men Who Molest: Children Who Survive (1985), and an expose on the intersection between Racism and capitol punishment, Race To Execution (2007). We’ll discuss her latest project which was sparked by the 2012 “Good Friday” shootings of 5 black people in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ms. Lyon’s Hate Crimes In The Heartland (2014) examines the trend of White Terrorism using the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot to provide historical and temporal context to the enduring pattern of White barbarism against black people. As is typical of Whites, she hopes the film might provide “hope” and “reconciliation.”
