listen-000000The Context of White Supremacy hosts the ninth study session on Ayi Kwei Armah’s acclaimed novel Two Thousand Seasons (1973). This tome was one of Gus’ top 5 books – Dr. Marimba Ani liberally borrows from Armah in her work. Last week’s program chronicled a massive counter-violent offensive where Isanusi and his black troops successfully duped and executed the White Destroyers and confiscated their massive slave port as well as their store of munitions. Even after capturing the fortress they remained incognito, so as to ambush future slave ships. Kamuzu provided essential assistance to their covert operation, but his desire to emulate the White Destroyers jeopardized their long term objectives – vanquishing the Whites, returning to the way. This week’s session details the importance of not becoming singularly, myopically focused on one’s own pain and losses. As all black, non-white people are being terrorized, this greedy fixation can be counter-productive. Equally important, our concepts of “family” and “love” are generally far removed from the pitiful reality of how weak, vulnerable and confused most Victims of Racism are. The people we “love”, may be the very people to help disrupt our counter-racist agendas.
