listen-000000Dr. Linda Gordon visits The Context of White Supremacy. Dr. Gordon is a professor of history at New York University. She is widely recognized as a pioneering historian on women and gender. She’s conducted an impressive body of research on Women’s Rights and family issues. We’ll examine her 2000 publication The Great Arizona Orphan Abduction. The book garnered Dr. Gordon the Bancroft Prize for best book in US history. This text documents an early 20th century scandal involving a Catholic New York orphanage. A group of 40 orphaned children were taken to Arizona to be adopted by Mexicans (non-whites). When the White Arizona residents discovered that “half-bread” Mexicans were about to take possession of children they classified as White, an armed White mob was formed and the children were forcibly taken. This book reveals the awesome, often unacknowledged, power that White Women wield under the System of White Supremacy. Dr. Gordon’s book also evidences an crucially important point – Whites cannot be ignorant about Racism.
