The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Christopher Hayes. Dr. Hayes is a Suspected Racist and the Director of the Undergraduate Writing Program in Department of History at Rutgers University. His research interests include Nineteenth and twentieth century U.S., urban and African American history; Civil Rights and Black Power history. Dr. Hayes was interviewed by NPR for a report that aired on Friday, July 18th detailing his memories of the July 1964 unrest in Harlem NY. An unarmed 15-year-old black male was killed by the New York Police Department; black citizens protested and destroyed White-owned property for approximately six days. Dr. Hayes’ interview aired the day after Eric Garner was choked to death by NYPD. His death has been ruled a homicide; no one has been charged. In the time since Gus invited Dr. Hayes to speak with us, John Crawford, III and Ezell Ford and Dante Parker were also killed by police officers (Suspected Race Soldiers). And then Ferguson. We’ll get Dr. Hayes perception of these events within the continuum of state-sanction White Terrorism against black people.
