The C.O.W.S. w/ Alabama State Rep. Alvin A. Holmes

April 17, 2014

The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Alabama State Representative Alvin A. Holmes. Rep. Holmes was elected in 1974 in the 78th District of Alabama. He’s a member of the NAACP, the Montgomery Improvement Association and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Rep. Holmes has been at the center of a recent controversy concerning abortion. White Alabama State Representatives were considering measures to restrict abortions in the state. Rep. Holmes asserted that 99% of the Whites present were being hypocritical because many of these same White abortion opponents would hastily terminate their White daughter’s pregnancy if the father was a black male. Rep. Holmes has been excoriated as a Racist and an out of touch old fogy. Approximately 100 Whites rallied in Alabama to oppose his remarks and for a small number of them to showcase the non-white children in their family. Rep. Holmes has consistently asserted that he supports “interracial” relationships, but feels many of the Whites advocating for abortion restrictions are perpetrating a “con game.”
