The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Professor Paul Reck. Reck is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Ramapo College in New Jersey. His research interests include the social construction of race, class, and gender, and how such constructions contribute to structural inequality, particularly within the context of the criminal justice system. The past few months of police mauling and killing black people has focused a great deal of attention and dialog on Racist police practices. We’re curious as to how Professor Reck explains these types of incidents to his students, and what suggestions he offers his black students on how to safely survive police encounters. We’ll get his assessment on the likelihood of officer Darren Wilson being indicted as well as the Newark, New Jersey police department – which was recently accused of widespread constitutional violations and possible Racist abuse of black and non-white citizens.
