BTR News (Moscow) – Vladimir Putin, just off a winning a six-year term as the President of Russia, likely will continue his tough stance against US military aggression in Syria. Russia, an ally of the official government in Damascus, has been invited into the country to help it eliminate Islamic terrorist threats and proxy militias backed by the UK and the USA. The Russian government is signaling that it will respond militarily if Damascus is attacked by the United States military and insinuated that it had intelligence that the Trump administration is plotting such an attack.
Early in the Trump administration, the US military launched cruise missile attacks against a Syrian airbase possibly causing Russian casualties in addition to killing members of the Syrian military without provocation and perhaps to appease media foes attacking Trump with unproven alleged collusion with Putin in the 2016 election. The Syria government has never given provocation for the United States to seek to overthrow it like it did to its own ally in Libya partnering with reported Islamic terrorist groups to oust Ghaddafi just to supply its CIA and US Military backed proxies with Libyan arms to overthrow Syria. Almost 20 years ago Syria was named by the Bush administration as part of an axis of evil or what we are seeing is the manifestation of a long-held bipartisan agenda of establishment neo-conservatives and neo-liberals.
Speaking of Syria and Libya, then under-secretary of State John Bolton who is rumored to be joining the Trump administration, a staunch chicken-hawk if ever there was one, named both Syria and Libya, in addition to Cuba, in a speech titled “Beyond the Axis of Evil”. The United States from administration to administration continues to make war on nations that have not made war against them and pose no threat to US citizens.
In related news this week, we find out that the Trump administration had no proof that Assad “attacked his own people” with “chemical weapons” according to a high ranking official.
Lost in the hyper-politicized hullabaloo surrounding the Nunes Memorandum and the Steele Dossier was the striking statement by Secretary of Defense James Mattis that the U.S. has “no evidence” that the Syrian government used the banned nerve agent Sarin against its own people.
This assertion flies in the face of the White House (NSC) Memorandum which was rapidly produced and declassified to justify an American Tomahawk missile strike against the Shayrat airbase in Syria.
Mattis offered no temporal qualifications, which means that both the 2017 event in Khan Sheikhoun and the 2013 tragedy in Ghouta are unsolved cases in the eyes of the Defense Department and Defense Intelligence Agency.
There is no reason to believe that the Russian government would hesitate to engage US military in the region if they are involved in an attack on the seat of their ally in Damascus especially since the reported killing of hundreds of Russians fighting Islamic terrorist groups inside Syria apparently being aided by the Trump administration and the US Congress.
