North Carolina Woman Faces Charges Following Alleged Assault on a Minor

By Scotty T. Reid, BTR News – In Greensboro, a woman from North Carolina has been arrested on accusations of attacking a young boy by dousing him with soda and hitting him with a bottle. The incident reportedly took place at the Sedgefield Garden Apartments. Responding to a call shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3, law enforcement apprehended 62-year-old Kimberly Jennings. She has been charged with two counts of assault on a child below 12 years of age.

During the episode, Jennings seemingly approached the children, urging them to exit the pool zone, even though there were no posted signs regarding trespassing or warnings about children being unsupervised. Reacting to this, Jace retaliated by tossing a bottle at Jennings when she allegedly tugged at his younger sister’s hair. This prompted Jennings to splash soda on him and subsequently strike him using the bottle.

The children’s parents recognize that Jennings might have intended to ensure the kids left the pool area. However, they firmly believe her manner of doing so was entirely inappropriate. “There are better ways to handle situations like this,” stated Robert Eury, Jace’s father. “There’s never a justification to lay hands on someone else’s child. It’s not her duty.”

A video of the incident was posted on Facebook by Aisha Hogan, whose friend, China Symone, resides in the Sedgefield Garden Apartments. Hogan relayed that Symone has previously observed and endured instances of Jennings behaving aggressively and showing signs of discrimination towards both visitors and other residents.

In a move to show unity and support, a large group gathered at the apartment complex, brandishing placards with messages such as “halt the aggression” and “combat racism.” “Any form of racism and housing prejudice is unacceptable. We rally behind the affected family. Being a mother of two boys, I’d be heartbroken if anyone dared to harm them,” expressed Kay Brown, who leads the Greensboro chapter of the NAACP.
