The Context of White Supremacy hosts the debut study session on Angie Thomas’s bestselling young adult novel, The Hate U Give. Penned in response to the 2009 police killing of Oscar Grant, Thomas’s work “debuted at the top of The New York Times’s Young Adult best-seller list, and has drawn ecstatic praise from critics, librarians, book sellers and prominent young-adult novelists,” says The Times’s Alexandra Alter. The book has been so successful, it’s being converted to a major motion picture starring The Hunger Games’s Amandla Stenberg. The novel follows a young black girl who attends a predominantly White school. Unfortunately, a tragic arrangement – a “romantic” relationship between a black female and White male, is a significant aspect of the book. Much of the critical acclaim focuses on how this book honestly addresses the violence of White Supremacy. An educator and C.O.W.S. listener said The Hate U Give is being heavily promoted in schools, where many black girls and boys are required to read it. We’ll study this text to explore why Race Soldiers would heavily endorse such a book.
The C.O.W.S. Radio Program is specifically engineered for black & non-white listeners – Victims of White Supremacy. The purpose of this program is to provide Victims of White Supremacy with constructive information and suggestions on how to counter Racist Woman & Racist Man.
