The Context of White Supremacy hosts the fourth study session on Lothrop Stoddard’s most notable text, The Rising Tide Of Color Against White World Supremacy. In the days before her death, counter-racist scientist Dr. Frances Cress Welsing strongly advised black people to conduct a scholarly inspection of Stoddard to better grasp White Supremacy in the 21st century. A journalist and Harvard-educated historian, Stoddard was an intellectual icon of the early 1900’s. He was one of the most well known advocates of Eugenics – the belief that better Whites should have more children, while lesser Whites and especially non-white people should not procreate. During last week’s session, Stoddard discussed the history of black people on the planet. He generally concluded that black life, black history, and black intellect do not matter. He encourages the continued use of Christianity to groom black people to better accept being subjugated and enslaved. He emphasized that the negro’s only strength is an insatiable sexual appetite, which, if unchecked, could impale White rule. Throughout the book, Stoddard suggests that most groups of non-white people are plotting violent revolts against Whites and must be closely supervised. We hope students of Dr. Welsing will actively engage in these sessions.
